Rubens House Collection Online

You can access and search the entire Rubens House collection via this page, including objects that are not currently on display in the museum.

The Rubens House is located at the former home of Peter Paul Rubens (1577–1640), one of the world’s greatest artists. Together, the house and the collection offer a picture of the Antwerp master’s everyday world. In addition to works by Rubens himself, the collection includes paintings by collaborators like Anthony van Dyck (1599–1641) and Jacob Jordaens (1593–1678), as well as Antwerp contemporaries such as Frans Snyders (1579–1657). The Rubens House keeps over 2,500 objects, including paintings, drawings and sculptures, but also coins, medals, tapestries and period domestic goods. There are also several important letters and official documents relating to the house, Rubens’s personal life and his work as a humanist and diplomat. The most important work in the collection is undoubtedly Rubens’s Self-Portrait (RH.S.180) – one of the master’s four surviving individual portraits of this kind. Seven of the works have so far been added to the Flemish Community’s official Masterpiece List.

Aside from its own collection, the Rubens House is currently hosting 80 loans from private or museum collections in Belgium and abroad. Loans like this ensure that the presentation is continually enriched by international masterpieces.
